Marquis is a noble title in various peerages. Apparently below a duke and above an earl.
Americans might have heard of the Marquis de Lafayette, who played a part in their revolutionary war.
So writing "marquis contributor" is just wrong. The French pronunciation of "Marquis" is the same as the English pronunciation of "Marquee".
(The English pronunciation of "Marquis" is 'mah-kwiss', unless it's in reference to a French Nobleman.)
It's like writing "their" when one means "there".
