I've had a couple of instances of database corruption on my Kobos, but I'm blaming me for all of them because of forgetting to close out of books etc before connecting to Calibre. My wife, who never uses Calibre has never had any on any of her several Kobos over the last 5+ years.
As for "annoying interface", I always read that as "not the same as X"; "I'm used to X, this not the same as X, therefore it is annoying and worse"
