I now use a Pocketbook which has similar features to the Kindle and very few annoyances. Of course, the Pocketbook bookstore is terrible but you aren't limited to it.

I've never had any data corruption with my Kobos, but others have. Annoying interface, though? No idea what you possibly mean by that. I find the Kobo UI perfectly ok.
