Well, the Kobo is definitely missing details in the bright areas, as can clearly be seen at the top right area in the attached image. I think it’s really just a matter of color calibration, the dynamic range is limited on that technology so choices have to be made on whether to prioritize details in the low or high luminance areas.

If I was faced with that choice I’d probably take the same approach as Amazon, as this will likely make black text pop out more on a light background, meaning a slightly better readability for graphic novels. But really I think it’s just a case of give some, take some.
