Regarding your answers:
1. Try selecting two authors to see if it improves and calibre doesn't crash.
2. The translate function works from the plugin settings. You must check translate biography from the author notes and in the language code field you must put the two digits of the language to translate. In the image, Spanish is selected in my case.
2.1 the error that appears is because it didn't find a biography of that author on goodreads (but maybe you're using the plugin from the first post, try Teresita's edit)

In fact, the only serious point il that sometimes I have random crashed and I have to restart Calibre.
Do you have the same behavior or I am the only one to have this ?
