The best approach, given MobiPocket's conditions, would be to provide two firmwares:

However, I'm not sure that Adobe would allow a DRM-free version of its reader to be released, let alone MobiPocket. Even though Adobe charges $75K for the ePub/PDF reader license it probably still requires allowing DRMed ebooks, because Adobe makes money from them too.
