No. The images are still stored on your Kobo in colour. Before the image was converted to grayscale between the frame buffer and the screen, now it is converted when being written to the frame buffer. I was assured that there are some good reasons for doing so in terms of the CPU and memory usage with 2 pixels per byte (4 bits per pixel) compared to 3 bytes per pixel (24 bits per pixel) being needed but I am fairly certain that I was not following most of the reasoning. I was reminded of the attached cartoon:
