Correct, it is a Kaleido 3 screen, according the leaked screenshots shown earlier. I have Kindle stuff, a Libra 2 and recently a Book Note Air 3C (Kaleido 3 screen). The colors are muted and not vibrant like on an LCD (iPad) screen. I knew this going in but wanted a good note taking device that was able to read books easily, had lighting, and color for comics/graphic novels. The Kaleido 3 technology does that well enough.
The only potential downside is that currently released Kaleido 3 devices are dimmer (due to the color layer) even if not utilizing the color, like reading a novel. You compensate with the light settings. It is always possible, but not probable, that Kobo found a way to address this. We will see. On my Boox device it is not a concern, again because I expected it (lots of prepurchase research) and I compensate with brightness. For Kobo fans it should be great if you need color for manga/graphic novels.
Having said all that, there are some rumors, from a website that shall not be named and others, that Kindle will come out with a color device next year that uses a different technology than the Kaleido 3 which could take things to a new level. Again, time will tell.
