No offense, but 2 people in four months doesn't clear the 'a lot' threshold in this case. It still seems very situational to me.
But we'll see if more people speak up.

It's a bit debatable whether the Update metadata only modes should launch Count Pages or not. I can see different users expecting it to go either way.
(I don't use Count Pages--I pulled word count inside FFF when I realized CP calls Calibre routines for it.)
It appears to have been a deliberate design choice, since the sections before(add to unread list) and after(auto-convert) the call to launch Count Pages both apply only to 'real' updates.
A new checkbox on the Count Pages tab of FFF config for 'Apply when updating metadata only' is something I would entertain if people would find it useful.
