Confirmed - there must be an indicator somewhere that a .caltrash folder has been created for a library.

Probably this in the library preferences: "last_expired_trash_at"

Yep, if I delete that entry in the library database and the .caltrash folder they don't get recreated when I open that library.

So, it seems that the advent of .caltrash and folder locking have hardened the "Don't put your calibre library on a network drive" edict.

Maybe there is a case for a .caltrash opt-out. A Remove book or Remove format would do a hard delete - i.e. nothing moved to .caltrash, or OS trash/recycle bins. Probably make it a global option via a Tweak.
