Note that the date has changed to something more reasonable. It still has a link to this app as the "new Kindle for Mac".
Just to report back: nothing has happened with my K4Mac 1.40.1(65626), no notices, no update alerts — and the Apple App Store still shows this version and not the Kindle for iOS version. However, interestingly, the Audible for iOS app is now available for M1/M2 Macs. I'm not sure when that happened. There was never an Audible for Mac app.
