Firstly, most of the 'books' i add are not commercial books, they're reports from government agencies, 'think tanks' etc. When I add a book I get author and title from the file name.

When I was adding several batches of 10-20 books a day, I used the Import List plugin to inject the other standard and custom column values (e.g. pubdate, publisher, #genre etc) into the books just added.

But now it's down to 2-5 'books' a day, I load other standard and custom column values into the clipboard in a 'fixed' order and paste them into the book list cells, i.e.: F2→paste/edit pubdate; Tab, paste/edit publisher; tab, paste/edit #genre, etc etc . . .

I prefer my cut and paste from the clipboard approach, it's more flexible than creating a csv for the Import List PI. I also make considerable use of calibre metadata copy and paste feature. In many cases all I have to enter is a pubdate.

I also use a 3rd party clipboard manager - Clipboard-fusion.
