I cant order a battery due to restrictions, so i used a larger one from a tablet, and with that one there is no space for the pcb from the old battery. I just soldered the wires to the battery terminals. You can use it like this if youre confident in your cables and chargers used, but you dont get the short circuit and overcurrent protections the pcb brings.
So while you can use it without, ideally you should solder the protection pcb to the new battery, if the new battery you got doesnt have one of its own.
