Do you have any screenshots to demonstrate how it "looks" better, or under what conditions? I have both a Clara HD and a Sage, so I guess I could do some of my own experiments with an EPUB vs KEPUB downloaded from StandardEbooks if I know what I'm looking for.
Whether epubs or kepubs look better is very much a personal thing. It has been discussed many times in the Kobo forum with plenty of photos to "prove" one is better than the other. With enough replies that the photo "proves" the opposite viewpoint. The only thing to do is to try it yourself.

Personally, I don't see the fuss. I don't care about ligatures (epubs) and the spacing issue mentioned for kepubs happens if you use justification. As I don't care for hyphenation, and have no problem with ragged-right, this doesn't matter to me. Honestly, I don't care which format. I do like the progress graphs in kepubs, so tend to read novels that way. For short stories loaded as a separate book (no chapters) I tend to do epubs. But, that is as much because I read them on different devices and have things setup like that because of some unrelated testing I did some time ago.
