For me, I hate Windows 10. I am happy to use Calibre portable 5.43 on Windows 7 with my Kobo libra 2 (its firmware is not the latest but I don't see why firmware 4.33, or Calibre portable 5.44, would not work this way).
Some people are on an old enough version of Calibre where it won't work with their device such as a Kindle PW5 and the forthcoming Kobo Clara 2e.

I see no reason not to run Windows 10. It works perfectly well and the UI is good. What's going to happen is there's going to be more and more software that won't run on your Windows 7 system. If the current Sigil runs on your Windows 7 system, eventually when it's built on Qt6, it won't work. Calibre 6 won't work. You will lose out on any new features. And if Kobo comes out with a firmware update that needs the Calibre Kobo drivers modified to work with the database, you'd not be able to use that firmware and any new firmware with Calibre.

IMHO, it's a lose-lose situation not to upgrade. What is it about Windows 10 that you do not like? I never found anything not to like.
