I haven't done a more in-depth test yet, but I believe that the .AZW3/ePUB3 file does support the "Pseudo-classes & CSS pseudo-elements " unlike .mobi.

Mobi was loosely based on HTML 3.2, and is very much less flexible and less powerful than the XHTML in ePub ebooks or the HTML5 and CCS3 in AZW3 ebooks.
