Mine was in a neoprene Belkin cover - the K2 being almost friction-free simply slid out. Considering 99% of my reading is done on a futon 6 inches above a deep-pile carpet, you could argue that I was spectacularly unlucky to drop it on the only wooden floor in the place, during the 1% time when it was higher than 1ft above floor level.
I do wonder whether a rubberized surround would have made it more reluctant to slide as freely as it did...
