OTOH, we should realize that marginalized does not mean what it used to mean. The latest list of marginalized groups that I ran across included:
- GLBTQQIAPTS
- Senior citizens
- Persons living in poverty
- The homeless
- Racial/Cultural minorities
- Military combat veterans
- Persons of below average intelligence
- Hearing, visually, and physically challenged persons
- Persons with a serious and persistent mental illness
- Persons with cognitive impairments
- Gamblers
- Substance abusers
- Autism spectrum persons
- Gifted and talented persons
- Persons with disfigurements
- Sex offenders
- Felons
Please note that in North America, women were not considered as a marginalized group since they constitute a majority of the population (51.1%) and the original definition of marginalized was minorities and persons living in poverty. The current usage seems to be that anyone is now free to call themselves marginalized.
BTW, speaking of silly terms, I've adapted to LGBTQ and LGBTQ+ but we are now told to use GLBTQQIAPTS. Why not the simpler GSM (gender and sexuality minorities) instead of the continually expanding GLBTQ etc. etc.?
