I would suggest checking the following threads, the New version of DRM removal tools ("DeDRM"), the Dealing with Kindle for PC/Mac 1.19 and KFX in calibre and very likely, the KFX Input thread.

Since you are not trying to convert or read the files, the simples answer would be to install the KFX Input plugin which should allow you to see the cover and metadata. with the format showing as KFX-ZIP.
