There are various reasons that books end up on wishlists. In my case, quite a few are books that I own in paper that I plan to re-read sometime, and I'd rather do that on the ereader BUT I'm not going to spend full price to do it. Plus there are some books that will only get tried if they come out cheap enough. So these would all equate to "a lesser price is better than no sale". BUT also on the list are books that I really want to read and eventually I'm going to buy them whether they show up on special or not (within reason), so these are potentially "better to wait for a good price".

Other people will have their own reasons for placing books on wishlists, and so what ends up best for the seller depends on the averaging of all our individual peculiarities in combination with whatever business requirements exist (buy prices, and policies etc etc), and also taking into account customer satisfaction and just getting the customer to open their wallets.

In short: it's complex and different businesses are going to draw the line in different places.

(At least, that's how I imagine it. I don't have insider knowledge to know how accurate my guesses are.)
