Because
1 - you were being rude / judgemental calling what they did "laziness"
2 - Your example about the search makes no sense and is too extreme, unless you went after everybody calling it a Libra (without the H2O) with the same energy the past 2 years.

And of course, these posts are going to be around for a while. Somewhere in the future someone is going to search for references to the "Libra H2O" and find none of yours. Or look back for some information when the some future Libra-named device is released and then have to work out what you mean.

Honestly, I don't care about what people call their Paperwhites. But, I have seen those numbers and I've never actually known where they came from. I have periodically looked at the pages Amazon has for them, and I don't remember ever seeing Amazon selling the devices with those names. They currently have "Kindle Paperwhite" and "Kindle Paperwhite Signature". I have no idea what number is added to them, but, as Amazon doesn't tell me, I'm not surprised that someone is making something up. Using the year of release might have been better. But, Amazon does mention the generation, and their "Identify Your Kindle E-Reader" pages uses the generation. And for the record, when people said, "11th generation Paperwhite", I assumed it meant the 11th version of the Paperwhite, and I was surprised there had been that many.

But, Kobo has named these devices. They are completely clear that they are called and people using different names is never going to help. If the names were longer and more complicated, it would be one thing. But they are not and the advantage of typing "1" instead of "H2O" is so tiny it doesn't make up for the potential for confusion.
As much as you don't care about what happens with the Kindle line, it happens and we're still able to talk about them.
