I do not have the sorting problems you mentioned in the bookstore. I can sort a list of books on other criteria (I tried titles a-z and titles z-a), select a book for closer inspection, then return with the back arrow to the same sorted list I had chosen.

I haven't ever received a newsletter of new releases, either. I have tried and tried to get signed up for that and for alerts for my favorite authors, but I've never been successful.
Is it going in your junk mail bin? Both of those features work for me.
