I’ve yet to break a substrate in any ereader, which includes several Kobos. It’s also worth noting they’ve made the glass substrates better over the years. And the möbius substrate was also not covered by the guarantee/warranty.

Do the substrates break? Sure. But I’d bet it’s not as common as folks seem to think. After all people aren’t going to post randomly “my ereaders screen is still fine” whereas when they break folks tend to post.

Also the person you quoted has a Kobo Aura 1 which doesn’t have the plastic substrate. They were asking for the Sage which of course also doesn’t have a plastic substrate.

All of which makes your initial and follow up replies nonsensical.
