I asked, so I’ll answer.

I (just barely) have a use case for my five Kobos. I admit I was a little embarrassed by the number, but then comforted myself that we’re talking geriatric devices here; my newest is coming up on five years old.

In order of purchase:
  • Glo: My book repository. I have most, not all, of my Calibre library on a micro SD card so I can access any book on the fly. I never liked reading on this, so that gives me a reason to keep it around. I stopped updating it long ago and it’s still got tiles. I have a sense it’s tottering toward its end.
  • Mini: My beach/lake/pool reader. Outdoor light offsets the low ppi and no front light. I also have the OEM cover which is bulbous and puffy, so I figure it’s protected when tossed into my beach bag. And if something happened to it, it wouldn’t break my heart.
  • H2O Gen 1: My nightstand reader. Pity no comfort light, but my Aura One (see below) is too big for the purpose. Also, I figure once the Glo croaks, this will become my repository since it’ll take the micro SD card.
  • Glo HD: My purse reader. This is the toughest use case since the pandemic, since I’m much less likely to be out and about. Trips are targeted, neither open-ended nor stacked, and I’m much less likely to have unexpected time on my hands. I’m carrying a smaller purse these days and I’d like to leave this in the car, but the temp runs to extremes here.
  • Aura One: My go-to, armchair reader. I really like the form factor on this, so long life to it (and the current 8” readers cost more than I’d want to spend or could justify, since it’s not as if I’d be readerless ).

And I really can’t come up with a justification for a sixth! My wallet thanks me.
