If the Complete Disckens is KF8 (.azw3) then you can use the KindleUnpack plugin to shift it from KF8 to ePub. Then you load the ePub into the Calibre editor and fix whatever errors you get when using the editor's error checker and epubcheck.

I'm not that advanced a user. Is there any relevant way to teach oneself Calibre's secrets, apart from the official helping website? Something detailed. So far the most advanced thing I can do with the software is to add a png to each Chapter of the book I'm editing.
We are moving away from the first issue, but among others, I'd really like to 'cut' omnibuses in their units.
