I tried to run uninstaller in 3 different ways: - Copying KFMon-Uninstaller.zip to root and rebooting
- Copying contents of KFMon-Uninstaller.zip (=KoboRoot.tgz) to root and rebooting
- Copying contents of KoboRoot.tgz to root and rebooting
I could notice anything happening after these 3 attempts.
So finally I unzipped contents of KFMon-v1.4.4-32-g3f9f34d.zip to root directory and it updated automatically, making Koreader finally work.

For later reference, the standard Kobo install process is to copy the KoboRoot.tgz file into the .kobo directory (requires showing hidden directories on Linus and OSX), safely ejecting and the KobotRoot.tgz file will be automatically processed.
The OCP packages run a script on Windows, OSX or Linux that automates the process. Place the script and the OCP (NickelMenu, KFMon and KOReader and/or Plato) .zip file in the same directory and execute the script. Wait patiently until the process is finished. See the
One-Click Install Packages for KOReader & Plato thread especially the first and second messages for more information.
