Owning a Note Pro for little over a year, I can definitely say
that the glass in front of the Moebius Eink screen can crack. Especially, if you put it in the back of your folding chair to prevent people stepping on the device and than sit down in it a while later.
The good part is that the screen keeps working. Albeit with cracks in front of it.
The bad part is that I haven't found a proper replacement screen cover. It seems that a well fitting cover could easily replace the cracked one, but I only found thin plastic covers that fit reasonably well but not perfectly. As it is also the 'light guide'*, I rather have tempered glass that fits really well.
Before summer there was a link to an update to upgrade the Note Pro from Android 6 to 9. I've heard a lot of people complaining that it was not an easy process. However, I didn't hear anyone brick their devices, too. As I cracked my device at the same time, I didn't put in the effort.
EDIT:
Reading
the linked thread again, I see that the replying member had an identically cracked screen on a Note 3. So it doesn't really make a difference. I would simply like to tell Onyx Boox to stop producing Moebius Eink devices with crackable screen covers. It's stupid!
The difference between the Note Pro and the Note 3 seems to be in marketing terms only.

*As the backside of the glass cover is made black at the sides to form the bezel, I think it is actually the top layer of the Eink screen that guides the light. (I found out that the bezel is the same layer as the class, when the cracks ran through them.)
