If matching the page numbers between a reflowable ebook and paper book is very important to you, then you will need to start learning about either pagelist or pagemap directives. Otherwise, any relationship between the page numbers shown in a ebook and in whatever paper edition you happen to be reading is purely coincidental. And yes, paper editions will have different page numbering between paperback, trade paperback and hardcover. Even pdf ebooks run into issues since they often match the hardcover but that is not guaranteed.
Personally, if I am switching between ereader/app/paper, I tend to remember more that I am a few pages into chapter 9 as an example. Or the last phrase I read and do a search on it.
