Yes the MiniClock does still work! However there is a newer version from September 2020:

That would mean the screen would have to be updated every minute. In other words, the device would not be asleep... so you might as well leave it on instead of patching it.
Or of course, use your phone or a bedside clock (you can get ones that switch the display off to be dark, and only light up when you touch it... or ones that are analog with a light that comes one when you press a button)
