Kelly--I did the same! I'm from Elk Grove--made the trip to San Jose just to get a library card. My husband thought I was nuts, but was a good sport and went with me just to keep me company.

I've also since got a non-resident library card from the New York Public Libary. They charge $100 a year, but for the collection they have I felt it was well worth it. I just sent them a check and a copy of my driver's license and they sent me a library card in the mail.
