Kindlegen changes up the coding a bit and Amazon splits out the media files and delivers them separately on the apps that support this format (Fire and iOS only).

isn't much to it, really. Make a PRC (I know I can't be the only schlub here that still has an ancient KG CL around, or for that matter--gasp!--MBPC), or an ePUB2 with PRC-compatible code, (MOBI 7) and slap your stuff in there. There isn't any read-along functionality, as there is for iBooks, so the other files aren't required. It's actually pretty easy-peasy, other than not being able to achieve thorough testing.
