You can't cope with it until... well, until it's over.

Make the best of what time you can have with him. Grant him a wish. Go on a trip with him. Do his bucket list. Enjoy his presense, seek it, feel it, fill memories, loads of memories... tell him you love him.

Plan his funeral with him, be the MC, and you'll be happy you did it all and he will be happy too.
