There isn't anything of value, maybe a ring or two. She has less than $8k right now, that will go quickly for the spend-down. Prepaying the rest of the funeral will probably take most of it.

There is some furniture, but nobody in the family needs anything...we're getting rid of stuff in anticipation of downsizing during the next few years. In the private room she'll have room for her lift chair, tv, dresser, possibly her card table for puzzles. She doesn't have any antiques or anything, not like my mom.

None of us are rich, my husband and his younger sister still work full time. We have no debt, but we are pouring every spare nickel into retirement and a possible move, which is looming.

No one is surprised by this. Saddened maybe, not surprised.
