You can alway buy from the website, download them to your computer, strip the drm, convert them to epub and you’ll have ADE page numbers available. And same for library borrows though you wouldn’t need to convert or strip the drm since on a computer they come over as ePub.
Zero patching required and you have full access to the page number system you prefer.
I’m not going to touch on if your examples are practical use cases or not since with the above fix you get the latest firmware and a page numbering system that would be consistent on all your devices. You’d only give up buying direct on the ereader and overdrive. Neither of which directly impacts the reading experience.
Also note that as kepub never used ADE you weren’t getting ADE Page numbering without converting anyway.
