But of course the current Clara has a far better screen than the original Aura, color changing front light and you can swap for a larger SD card and you haven't upgraded to that model either.

What change to the Clara would cause you to upgrade? Waterproofing aside, there's no guarantee that the next model will be easy to open to change the SD card and I don't see Kobo or any other reader manufacturer making SD card swapping a priority. They haven't for years.
