The only eInk ereaders I've seen that were able to have CBR/CBZ metadata transferred from calibre were from Kobo. They handle CBR/CBZ as native formats. Basically you end up with two step process. Step one, send the files to the Kobo, safely disconnect and let it process them which generates the database entries. Step two, reconnect and send the metadata to the database.

There is a Embed Comic Metadata plugin which may do what you want depending on the ability of the comic reader you use to read either a zip comment or the ComicInfo.xml embedded in the zip archive.
