Ubuntu has for some wonderfully terrible reason decided to offer no python binary at all in their latest release. So trying to install calibre fails with weird and wonderful errors:

Even more amusingly, they don't guarantee the /bin/sh shell is, like, usable. It did not take me long at all to find a way the new shellscript (which just searches for some sort of python-like binary and then re-calls the old python script) will fail too, but I cheated because I have past experience trying to rely on this.
I'm wondering what the solution for universal scripting on Linux is supposed to be, according to Ubuntu. Maybe perl?
Gah! A pox on stupid distros and their stupid politically-motivated harm to users who just want working things!
