On the previous device I bricked I chose UK English on device startup - Since successful results I've read about seem to be choosing US English, I'd be inclined to try again using US English and 5.8.9.0.1. But I don't think I'll be able to return a second bricked unit, so due to the current risk I'll have to leave mine as is for now.
Ah okay, so at the moment we just don't know why some are working, yet some aren't? Totally understand why it's being suggested to not attempt at the moment then.

You said your new firmware was 5.8.10.1. I haven't seen any success on that particular firmware.
That one is not downgradeable.
