I think it has always been a mix of both, but that the KOA2 has much less variation between devices than previously, and fewer people can spot any non-uniformity present on individual KOA2.

In a dark room with the front light dimmed for comfort, my KV has substantial gradients because of distance and substantial coning because of the finite number of LEDs. Under the same conditions, I see no non-uniformity at all on the KOA2, so I've been culled.
