There's a parallel here.
The only downsides to ebooks are: (1) ridiculous DRM that forbids me from selling used books, and (2) possible failure during (for example) power outages.
I said possible, not probable.

Everybody should have a solar-powered charger at home. Those things become better and better. I have one at home that will charge up to 8 AA batteries or I could connect it to my appliance by way of a connector.
