I mounted a small metal plate on the shelves beside my bed and put the remote there. You're right; the magnet is strong. I use the remote mostly for pausing whatever Alexa's playing rather than having to shout a command. Alexa can hear a softly spoken request from across the room perfectly fine, but not when she's busy talking. Or maybe she just doesn't like being interrupted.
