This is, unfortunately, one of the many books I've bought from Baen in the past which is no longer available.

NB: Joel Rosenberg, who wrote fantasy novels, is not to be confused with Joel C. Rosenberg, who writes political thrillers.
If you like his fantasy try his Science Fiction Series Metsada Mercenary Corps.
It is a four book series although my favorite is Not For Glory.
