A 32-bit Windows program can access 4GB if it's compiled in a specific way that allowed it to access 4GB. If not, the limit is 2GB. For Calibre, I would think it would be 2GB. So going to the 64-bit version on a 64-bit system (even though it's not portable) will work much better. One issue that does crop up is running out of memory during a conversion. So yes, you should be running the 64-bit version if you run a 64-bit Windows 7 or later.
