No. There is no way to fiddle with the database to get the old version of the stats back. The two methods count different things.

It depends on how far back you want to go. The fewer the versions, the safer it is. Going back to 3.19.x probably won't work. Going back to the last version where the stats worked, might, but I don't remember which that was. There is a problem doing this in that Kobo changed how some of the data related to the stats is stored. I think that was when the stats stopped working. Because of this, going back with a current database probably won't work. I'd expect it to show zeros, random numbers or force a setup.

If you want to do this, I would suggest taking a full copy of everything on the user partition of the device first. If it all goes wrong, you can restore this after a factory reset and try again.
