Thank you for the help - my libraries do use Overdrive but ebook downloads go directly from Amazon to my Kindle. Maybe the app is needed for epubs if no Kindle version is available? I'm not much into audiobooks yet but have started collecting some of the Amazon freebies for future use...

I'm sure that someone will correct me if I'm wrong here. But, if you ever want to check out an audiobook from a public library, you will almost certainly need to have Overdrive installed. There are some other audiobook companies that public libraries have subscriptions with to supply the audiobooks that they then turn around and loan to library patrons--e.g., OneClick--but the big kahuna out there appears to be Overdrive.
I don't know if you read many books, but the same thing as the above about Overdrive is true with borrowing ebooks. And, so, you will have to install Overdrive's software. Overdrive seems to be the big kahuna for ebooks, too. |
