Unless you're reading in pitch darkness, of course. For me, I find that in that case setting the Oasis at about 6 is right for me: on the old PW1, it was about 2 (but of course the PW1's 0 setting was actually lit at about the same as the Oasis's level 4). It also depends on how much your eyes have adjusted to the dark...

If you *do* have external light, the internal light should be set just high enough that the background appears white, not grey: no higher. Its job is to whiten the background and improve contrast, not act as a light shining unpleasantly into your eyes.
