I've actually never accidentally put my Max to sleep yet. It was another poster who originally raised the issue and I could see how it could be a problem as that has happened to me more than a few times with one of my tablets.
Out of curiosity, just turned my Max on and stood it up vertically on a desk. I quickly got the pop-up box asking me if I would like to shut down my device.
I suppose the buttons on some devices may be more sensitive than on others.
