I also remember how women in the early 1970s were frosting their hair. Now a days they pull out grey hairs, but back then it was not uncommon to see a 20 or 30 something woman with a tuft of white hair dyed to contrast with her naturally darker hair.
I remember black with almost orange highlights. Tried to do blonde highlights. The orange was a hit at school because the school colors were orange and white.
Totally pumpkin hair, looked odd when it started growing out. (Once again tried to do the blonde thing.)
Oh and once in high school tried to do green with food coloring. On washing it a dozen times afterwards, it went purple for a few days. Deep purple not lavender.
