Well, I would buy it!
I tried a non-official, knock off cover for my Aura HD and it was AWFUL! I know some here liked the knock off, I bought it from an eBay link posted here in fact, but it just ruined the experience of using my device.
1) Protruding magnet that fell under my thumb when holding the reader. PAINFUL! (Kobo cover has flush magnet.)
2) Metal edge on the cover that made a LOUD obnoxious click when closing the cover. (No exposed metal on Kobo cover, just leather on the outside, microfiber on the inside. There's a click, but so much softer sounding.)
3) Magnet too strong! Made it much harder to easily open the reader. (Kobo cover magnet is just right, keeps it closed, but you don't have to pry it open.)
4) Removal of the knock-off was so difficult I thought I was going to damage the e-reader! (Kobo cover, while not exactly easy to remove, never made me fear for my reader's life.)
Upshot, though the non-official cover cost a 5th of the price of the expensive Kobo leather sleepcover, it was wasted money, because it was so bad I threw it out. YMMV.
Anyway, 3 years later, Kobo cover has provided a wonderful experience the whole time and still looks brand new unless you look very, very closely at it. I consider that $50 well spent.
That said, new reader, new cover, perhaps the official cover would not be to my taste this time. But I'm certainly willing to give it a try based on past experience.
