Sigh. I hope they fix that. The convenience of downloading from the browser was great on the kindle.

KOReader is one of the add-on readers for Kobo (and others), that includes
OPDS catalog support. This means that you can access sites like "Project Gutenberg", "Feedbooks", "ManyBooks", "Internet Archive", [These are ones included] and any others that have a catalog URL, which you may add. With this approach you browse and download from menus/listings, without having to open a browser. Once you have downloaded your ebooks you can read them with any reader you want.
